History of The Bolton House

Amy

The Bolton House is a two–story, classic Queen Anne residence located in Santa Rosa, CA. Designed in 1903, by Brainerd Jones, a noted local architect, the house boasts many distinct features, including a beautiful wrap around porch that opens into a gazebo.

Brainerd Jones designed the Bolton House and several buildings in downtown Petaluma. His work includes private homes, schools, libraries, meeting halls and commercial buildings and is known for combining beauty with efficiency.

The house gets its name from Walter Alexander Bolton who invested in real estate in Santa Rosa in the early 1900s. He was born in Healdsburg and was the 3rd resident to have lived on what was known as Lot 9 after the residential development by Elijah T. Farmer. Lot 9 is now known as 966 Sonoma Ave.

In 1981, the Bolton House was officially added to the City of Santa Rosa Historic Properties list and remains a local landmark to this day, thanks in large part to the efforts of Dan Peterson, Thomas Fruiht, and Thomas Tomasi.

Make your trip to Sonoma County one to remember! Beautifully renovated with modern amenities, The Bolton House retains its historical charm and is centrally located, with a short drive or walk to all downtown Santa Rosa has to offer.
